In the early 1900s, young Artiste Racine aspired to follow his illustrious watchmaking family’s footsteps and create his own brand. However, the Racine name had already been trademarked. With a stroke of ingenuity, he adopted the name “Enicar,” his surname spelled backward—a clever idea credited to his wife.
The 1950s marked significant technological advancements, including a chronometer certification and the innovation of movements cleaned by ultrasound, reducing the need for oil maintenance. Among these achievements, the Sherpa line of watches stood out, inspired by sponsored mountain expeditions akin to the Rolex Explorer. This line evolved into over 100 models designed for various purposes !
One standout model, the Enicar Sherpa Divette, gained immense popularity. This smaller counterpart to the Sherpa Dive 600 was crafted for deep underwater dives, coinciding with the U.S. Navy’s documentation of enriched oxygen gas procedures—now known as nitrox. The Sherpa Dive 600 received high praise from the U.S. Navy and was acquired as needed.
Building on this success, Enicar designed the Divette at an ideal 36mm for a more fashionable and versatile option- the dial has a nice and uniform patina - stingray like !
We also love the typical Enicar handset , with the seconds hand in an unique spearlike form.The setting crown has been replaced at a service by a non Enicar signed one.This nice diver comes on a Bulangandsons strap and has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
